Holmebank Chert Mine, Bakewell – Tuesday 13th March 2018.
Meet 7.15pm Holme Lane, Bakewell (street parking). Another opportunity to explore this interesting, quite extensive mine, with around 5 miles of workings! Ideal novice trip, but of interest to more experienced explorers. We will undertake usual ‘through trip’ from lower entrance to quarry entrance. An objective of trip, enroute we plan to finish cleaning graffiti, which appeared in 2017. Optional wirebrush, goggles, gloves, etc. Grade: Easy. Dry trip, unless you intend exploring flooded mine workings in lowest part of mine! Mostly walking/stooping size passages, short scrambly bit, no crawling! Mine contains various artifacts. Worth bringing a camera. Boilersuit or old clothes fine. Party size not limited/BOOKING ADVISABLE. Presently three members booked on trip. Permission from “Oldfield Design”, Bakewell, who request an optional donation of up to £2 per head to the ‘Alzheimer’s Society’. Reference: Caves of the Peak District (2010 Edition/p 302 & survey 303).
